Audi 80 GTE

The Audi 80 B1 (internal designations: Audi Type 80 for the first model and type 82 for the facelift) is a sedan of the Audi NSU Auto Union AG, and was released in the early summer of 1972 as a successor to the Audi F103 on the German market. His official presentation was only at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1973. A version with a hatchback as VW Passat is built starting May 1973.

In Ingolstadt, lightweight construction was a main issue even before the Age of Aluminum for car-construction. The Audi 80 GTE weighs only 902 kg. The colors, which seem today often brightly, were 38 years ago normal for an understatement-car.

The Audi 80 B1 is one of the most unexplored classic cars in Germany. The B1 was built 1972 till 1976. Although the recent vehicles are over 30 years old (original model), they are rarely traded, the price level is low. This very inconspicuous car, a pioneer in lightweight and technology is the basis of all water-cooled VW vehicles. Thus, he is the savior of this brand and was Car of the Year in 1972.
